I’m happy to see you mentio...Great post once again. I’m happy to see you mention Existenz. My 1999 list is coming and it barely missed the top ten. I can’t say that it was the year I started paying closer attention, but part of me wishes I had. I had to go back and discover many of these films, and it turned out to be quite a year. Once again, we share a lot of common ground. It’s also nice to see Bringing out the Dead, another film that barely missed my list. I was never a fan of American Beauty. Jesus’ Son deserved a better adaptation from the director’s standpoint, the cast does a pretty good job. It would have been interesting to see Altman do it almost as a way to link Jesus’ Son with What we Talk About When We Talk About Love. Galaxy Quest! I forgot about that one. You’re right, it is a lot of fun. Boys Don’t Cry is a good film. Though I don’t like Julien Donkey Boy, I’m happy to see it on your list. I’m also sad to report that I haven’t seen Ghost Dog.

I also wanted to compliment your previous post in which you lauded not one, but two of my favorite films. I expected you to fall in love with The Roaring Twenties, but was really delighted to see the Capra love. He is a misunderstood filmmaker and It Happened One Night is spot on.

As for Inglorious Basterds, you are sensing things correctly though I want to express that this is a troubling film. I want to pick it apart to challenge my initial reaction. It’s rare that such a violent film evokes this type of love from me. I don’t want this troubling infatuation to go unchallenged, although three days in I‘m it‘s only growing in stature. I agree with you on Kill Bill. Most of it is disposable, a talented director declaring his movie love through a shallow vessel. But this film is much different John. The conduit for expression is much more complex. I’m guessing/hoping that it’ll be up your alley, if you can get past a scene or two (one tasteless sex scene and a few unnecessary expositions).

once again, great post!brandohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03743515064617447728noreply@blogger.com
