ha. I was going to write something in defense of my statement but I couldn't think of anything John Proof. Basically I was mostly riffing on myself and my timidity in regards to praising things for being entertaining or fun. Basically it connects with what Jeff and I were talking about in regard to prestige, specifically in expectations and reputation. The need for meaning trumping the need beauty of seamless expression. A lot of older films are lacking in "meaning" but they are nonetheless very important. Even the films with heavier meanings aren't really that earth shattering. We know what we know I guess.
